Spatial Narratives / The Indoor Generation

Updated: Aug 15, 2018

The Indoor Generation is a campaign which brings awareness to the problems of indoor pollution as a result of chemicals and lack of air flow in our indoor spaces. The campaign was produced by a sky light insulation company, Velux. The advertisement includes many spatiotemoral displays of an unhealthy living environment ie. thick foggy air and artificial blue light.

The video uses cinematography to enhance the ambience of the scenes and evoke a thoughtful viewing experience.

Music and lighting plays a big role in the environments presented in the film.

"INDOOR AIR CAN BE FIVE TIMES MORE POLLUTED THAN OUTSIDE AIR"

- No matter where you live, opening a window and letting in fresh air is almost always preferable to breathing in stale indoor air.

"DAYLIGHT CAN IMPROVE YOUR CHILDREN’S LEARNING ABILITIES BY UP TO 15%"

- Science shows that classrooms that are well lit with daylight make for more effective learning than those that are poorly lit. There is no reason to doubt that these benefits also apply in the home and workplace.

"LIVING IN DAMP AND MOULDY HOMES INCREASES RISK OF ASTHMA BY 40%"

- Respiratory problems and allergies can be caused or aggravated by poor indoor air quality.

"LACK OF DAYLIGHT MAKES 15% OF US SAD"

- The power of daylight cannot be reproduced artificially. We need sunlight in order to feel energetic and healthy.
