Critical Responce to Brian Massumi by Maria Fernandez
Massumi thinks of the bodys motion as a resonation or interference pattern. The sensation as a moment in-between the connection of two objects, the sense (touch) and the intensity (experience). Massumi assesses the emotion effect of an interpretation of space is a sociolinguistic happening, whereas the affect in space is always cemented. In the context of virtual space, Massumi describes happening as too fast paced to be believable in cemented space, where there is a realm for potential. This tells me that Massumi thought that the space in virtual reality is opportunistic to challenge the way we perceive happenings like motion or light. How we move through space therefore offers a question not to be answered but explored intensely.
Massumi proposes the relationship from the body to the virtual is based around typology. Typology a mathematical study of the shapes in objects which stay constant through the the deformation of stretching, twisting or warping. This typology excludes a break or tear in the object. This can be explained in the morphing of a glass into a plate. Massumi explains these virtual objects of topology as figures that resemble analogue. Massumi explains other virtualised things as sound, text. These are things that come from man made objects assembled through codes. I wonder then if heat is produced through this mode of analogue. or vibration?
This idea of analogue entities is that it can transform itself from one to another in the matter of seconds, for example a line of code could mean a sound, vibration or textural quality.
Massumi thinks that their is an importance in the process of pedagogy where the student interprets data in a way unique to themselves adding further understanding to the work.
