Escape My House / Experiential Education

Updated: Aug 15, 2018

Escape my house is a vr application that was built by Fire and Emergency to help people recognised the actions that will keep you are in the event of a house fire. The VR experience uses sound and spatial information to show the user what belongings in their home they should leave behind and the best escape routes.

The experience is located within a fictional household but includes objects which are commonly found in the home.

These objects connect you to the objects in your own home which you might think of trying to save when there is a fire in your own home. The experience most vividly shows how fast and powerful flames and smoke can spread through a house hold and teaches you to get out of the space as soon as possible.

Experience:

I found that the use of sound was very useful to indicate how close the fire was and how volitile the flames were. The fire alarm swell created a sense of unease. The flame was very convincing as well and the smoke that filled the room made the experience bit scary. I found the use of light very indicative of where the flames were coming from and where the problematic spaces were in the house. The experience also included a score of temperature in the room and air pollution. This might be useful to include in my space as it informs the user of the exact environmental change.
