Spatial 200 - Rethinking retail - Ihi and Wehi
Third years brief, was to create a retail space for a chosen object. I decided to create a ceramics building store which people could go to and build their own homewares. I used light features to enhance the interiors of my design and a free formed wall feature that immulated the individuality which could be created in the process of hand building.
Spatial 300 - SCAPE Walkway, Christchurch - Whitiwhiti Korero
When discussing the problematic situations of Christchurch post-earthquake, I decided that i wanted to focus my project towards the recovery and growth of the city. I wanted to create an installation that focused less on the destruction of Christchurch and pain around that, which may have reenforced those emotions. I came up with the key words; Growth and Opportunity to start my discussion around what installation i wanted to present in SCAPE 2017.
With these words in mind i created some iterations of a flower, which i identified personally as a object of beauty which may often be overlooked.
My initial concept for SCAPE, after doing a reading by Joanne Haynes on Transgenerational Learning, was to subvert a spatial installation which emulated something quite beautiful, and place it into a less than stunning or seemingly abandoned area. This intention was to provoke viewers, in a transitional space, to see the opportunity in spaces that were abandoned. Because there are a lot of area around Christchurch currently, i thought this would make an interesting installation to draw people to these abandoned areas and remind them of the potential in these spaces.
